Welcome to Diaper Free Baby!DiaperFreeBaby is a network of free support groups promoting a natural approach to responding to babies' elimination needs. This practice is followed worldwide and is known as Elimination Communication, Natural Infant Hygiene, and Infant Potty Training. The process involves observing one's baby's signs and signals, providing cue sounds and elimination-place associations, and can be done with or without any diaper use.
EC is NOT potty training...Elimination Communication (EC) is NOT potty training. It is a gentle, natural, non-coercive process by which a baby, preferably beginning in early infancy, learns with the loving assistance of parents and caregivers to communicate about and address his or her elimination needs. This practice makes conventional potty training unnecessary. Read more...

New Leadership at DiaperFreeBaby
Posted by: melinda on 11/19/2013 10:28 AMTo the Community of DiaperFreeBaby,
Today I share with you the news that I am passing on leadership of DiaperFreeBaby to a new generation of parents as passionate about Elimination Communication as I and my co-founder Rachel Milgroom were ten years ago! Leading the organization from this day forward are Lisa Baker and Melodie Stenger, two fabulous women and moms who have committed significant volunteer time and even more extraordinary emotional commitments to this organization for many years. You are in good hands with them and I am thrilled to see them take this organization forward!
From our very first meetings in our homes and in the parks to our biggest moments of publicity, we have stood proud of what we can learn and what we can share and have been thrilled to see how many people have joined us in caring for their children with the loving approach of EC.
I remember the first time I learned of EC from Christine Gross-Loh - the excitement I felt knowing that my babies did not NEED to wear diapers and that I could communicate with them in more ways than I had imagined. I remember many times watching babies of parents (new and experienced) pee on the potty for the first time. And I remember facing criticism and doubt from many, yet having the courage and support of the community to stand by as we continued on our path.
Having been one of the founders of this organization, it is very dear to my heart and always will be. I have been inspired by so many of you an hope that I have inspired you as well. My children are older now (the youngest is 6) and I am reassured that raising them without dependence on diapers is one of the best gifts I have given them. They are confident and comfortable about their bodies, they have an understanding that babies are capable of understanding and communicating about their bodies from infancy, they understand the positive impact that not using (or significantly reducing the use of) diapers has on our earth, and they are proud of being advocates of EC themselves.
We have come a long way these past 10 years due to the dedicated efforts of our volunteers from our very beginnings. From very small communities online and tiny, and sometimes meek, gatherings in local towns, we have grown as a community to involve thousands of families, some online globally and many locally, who learn together, support each other, and advocate for a better way to help babies with their elimination needs.
DiaperFreeBaby has a long future ahead with many opportunities. Besides providing direct support to families, this organization continues to educate and advocate worldwide, to participate in research studies to provide solid evidence of EC's benefits, and will continue to move forward with new initiatives, improving the lives of babies and their families and the Earth.
I want to thank each and every member of our community for your interest and support, for your efforts and commitment to your babies and your families and to us, and for all the volunteers who have spent precious time (usually juggling taking care of children simultaneously) to help this organization grow and have an impact. I hope that you will continue to participate in advocacy and educational efforts of this organization and seek opportunities to be part of what still a huge effort in social change. Every time you mention EC to someone you are making a difference!
I will always remain part of the community and look forward to seeing what the future holds for DiaperFreeBaby and for you!
Enjoy your EC Journeys!
